Whatever your relationship to the Bible: conflicted, distant, or curious, this is a chance to explore.
Many of us grew up with readings of the Bible trapped in Western, colonial, patriarchal interpretations. We're not here to argue with those interpretations on their own terms. We're here to go somewhere new.
Using the wisdom that has always existed in our cultures, we come back to old stories with our folktales, cultural wisdom, our collective imagination, and new spiritual practices, and find readings that are liberative and creative.
For those of us who are longing to take another look at the Bible in a community we can trust, this is for you.

Cohort Details
WHEN
I’m offering the cohort at two times. If we can fill both slots, great. If there is overwhelming preference for one of the options, then we will do only that time. I’m offering one option that caters to West Coast people, and one that caters to East Coast people.
WEST COAST TIME
Starting Tuesday September 22, 2026 and ending 8 weeks later on Tuesday November 10th, 2026. Cohort gatherings will run from 6:00-7:30pm Pacific, 9:00pm-10:30pm Eastern.
EAST COAST TIME
Starting Wednesday September 23, 2026 and ending 8 weeks later on Wednesday November 11th. Cohort gatherings will run from 3:30pm- 5:00pm Pacific, 6:30pm-8:00pm Eastern.

This Cohort is for BIWOC, Queer BIWOC, and trans and non-binary folks of color
What is the time commitment?
Weekly Cohort Gatherings. Please do not sign up for the cohort if you know you will miss more than one gathering.
30 minutes to an hour of reading or exploring a spiritual practice during the week.
30 minutes reflecting and sharing with the cohort in our online platform during the week, between cohort gatherings.
The Facilitator
Erna Kim Hackett
Erna Kim Hackett is a preacher, public theologian, and coach who has spent her career building spaces of healing, justice, and liberation for women of color.
Raised in the Korean immigrant church, Erna spent 18 years in a white evangelical college ministry, focused on Black Campus Ministries and social justice programs. In 2018, she moved to Berkeley to serve as Executive Pastor at The Way Christian Center, a historically Black, justice-focused church rooted in the Black Liberation and Pentecostal traditions.
Erna holds a Master's in Intercultural Studies from the Institute for Indigenous Theological Studies, where she deepened her understanding of Indigenous worldview and decolonial frameworks. She draws on that study, Black liberation theology, and her own Korean immigrant church upbringing to build radical solidarity without erasing what makes each community distinct.
In 2023, she launched the Liberated Together Spiritual Direction School. And in 2026 she released a limited run podcast called Rethinking Israel, Palestine, and the Faith That Formed Us — a project inviting evangelicals and those shaped by evangelicalism to wrestle honestly with Scripture, history, and justice, moving toward peace and dignity for Palestinians.
What I really love about being in this cohort is having a space to be transparent and vulnerable to people who I don’t have to explain myself to!
I love the space to come as you are even if it’s a hot mess inside a dumpster fire! Turns out I’m not the only hot mess and these women will bring me to Jesus even if they have to carry me on their backs!
There is something sacred about women of color holding space for one another when life has left you tired and prickly.
