Parenting Post Deconstruction: A Learning and Support Community
This gathering is part of Liberated Together Spiritual Care and is led by one of our Spiritual Care practitioners. That means that the space will be a mix of group spiritual direction, as well as learning. There will be grounding spiritual practices, time for silence and reflection, as well as time for conversation and learning.
This will be a non-judgemental place to process your experience and talk questions like - should I go to church for my kids? Is gentle parenting just a white thing? How do I even talk about "the gospel." How do you parent post purity culture? How do I process the grief of losing so much of the community that I thought would help me raise my kids?
If you related to any of these questions and want to connect with other parents who are looking to learn together and offer support, then this cohort could be a great space for you.

The Facilitator
Puanani Calvillo
Puanani Calvillo is a Samoan Pilipina/Ilocana, who has accompanied WOC and children for more than 15 years. She is a spiritual director, facilitator, holds a Masters in Teaching and a certified personal trainer. Her practice centers care for communities of color at the intersection of liberative spirituality and embodied movement (exercise). Puanani brings her lived experiences as a mother of 3 children, multi-ethnic multicultural person, former elementary school teacher and ministry leader.
As a devout charismatic evangelical youth, she dedicated her young adult years to ministry leadership. She began her deconstruction process 15 years ago alongside her Chicano partner while pastoring in an immigrant majority community wherein many members lived on the edges of society due to their legal status. As her faith continues to expand and evolve she simultaneously navigates how these changes inform her parenting. She admits it can be lonely and isolating. She looks forward to holding space for collective care, storytelling, and co-learning to support parents on their deconstruction journey.
